CryoAir

Whole Body Cryotherapy was developed in Japan in 1980. With physical short-term treatment, the patient is exposed to extreme cold up to three times a day for a few minutes. This innovative "cryogenic" technology by cooling units has been perfected over the last 20 years and is constantly evolving.

HOW IT WORKS

Ambient air is cooled down through a highly effective multiple-stage system to the required temperature and fed into a specially constructed enclosure, a cryochamber that is capable of maintaining this extremely low temperature. For localized cryotherapy, cold air is deployed by an application hose enabling precision cooling and the exact delivery of airflow dosage to the skin.

As part of an athlete’s rehabilitation, WBC (whole body cryotherapy) can be used to reduce the injury lay-off period when treating acute sporting traumas or chronic overload trauma. WBC is also effective as complimentary treatment of post-injury conditioned surgical interventions and for biological regeneration and chronic trauma prevention during intensive training and competition preparation.

 SCIENCE

The body’s response to RP Sports’ cryotherapy is a decrease in inflammation and pain and the promotion of healing. The cold interrupts the pain receptors, so that even after the first application an improved mobility occurs. The body responds by releasing endorphins to promote healing, well-being and quality of life.

The positive properties of the body cooling can be used to increase performance and speed recovery. In addition to an adrenaline and endorphin boost, a visit in the cold chamber promotes:

  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • Stress/anxiety reduction
  • Mental acuity

In addition to cryotherapy chambers, CryoAir offers localized cryotherapy, which is the application of cold to specific areas of the body.

Our localized therapy devices take in ambient room-temperature air and chills it down to between -25.6° F and -76° F before delivering it to the specific areas of the body undergoing treatment. Cold air is deployed by an application hose enabling precision cooling and the exact delivery of airflow dosage to the skin.

When the target areas are deprived of warmth, the localized heat loss combined with cold air therapy relieves pain and reduces swelling. Immediately after treatment, the positive effects can be observed in relation to pain sensation and mobility of joints. Also, general well-being is increased.

The flexible CryoAir "Mini" versions offer high cooling capacity in a small space and can be quickly set up on site for short treatments with long-lasting benefits.

FAQ

Are all cryotherapy chambers the same?

Unlike many other cryotherapy products on the market, our CryoAir chambers are not cooled using liquid nitrogen. Our CryoAir models are powered by electricity, ensuring the safe operation of the chambers.

How do CryoAir chambers work?

The skin reacts to the cold and sends messages to the brain, acting as a stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. Skin exposure to the extreme temperatures also triggers of hormones and endorphins which have anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties.

The positive properties of the body cooling can be used to increase performance and speed recovery. In addition to an adrenaline and endorphin boost, a visit in the cold chamber promotes:

  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • Stress/anxiety reduction
  • Mental acuity

Is cryotherapy safe?

Absolutely. No serious injuries have been recorded over the 30+ year history of proper cryotherapy use. The therapy is continuously monitored in the immediate vicinity of the control panel. Two-way communication is possible at any time through the intercom system.

What is worn in the chamber?

Swimwear and nose and mouth surgical mask are worn along with ear protection, gloves and heavy woolen socks and crocs (without metal). Piercings, jewelry or contact lenses should not be worn and phones, watches and wallets should not enter the cryotherapy chamber.

What is the normal treatment sequence?

  • Step 1: Enter the pre-chamber (approx. -76°F), remain for approximately 15 to 20 seconds; introduced moisture dries
  • Step 2: Enter the main-chamber (approx. -166°F), remain there for a maximum of three minutes during which movement and stretching (walking in a circle) is required
  • Step 3: Exit the main chamber quickly through the pre-chamber

What is the recommended protocol?

The duration of total therapy time should not exceed 3 minutes.

Best results are realized in serial applications with one or two treatments per day for several days, depending on the indication and injuries.

Can I catch a cold because of this procedure?

No. The immediate cold impact of the cryo session will raise the internal body temperature for a short period of time. The stimulation of the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.

Who should not use whole body cryotherapy?

The following conditions are contraindications to whole body cryotherapy: Pregnancy, severe Hypertension (BP> 160/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, claustrophobia, cold allergy, age less than 18 years (parental consent to treatment needed), acute kidney and urinary tract diseases.

If in doubt you should consult your GP.

What does it feel like after a cryotherapy treatment?

During each session the body releases endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel good and energetic. The mood-enhancing effects from each session can last for days.
